Does being the student body president of my high school help my chances of getting into college?
If so, how much? I'm applying to Vanderbilt University early decision this January.
The first thing they will look at is GPA, Courses, and SAT. To get into a good college, 550+ in each subject and around As and Bs (3.5+) is recommended as well as some extracurricular activities (Sport, Clubs, Community Service, Study Body Government). Check to see what the GPA, Courses and SAT requirements are for your course. I recommend also taking the ACT if they accept it (or even if they don't) and some SAT II Subject tests.
But the minimum for good college is As and Bs (3.5+), 550+ in SAT, some extracurricular activities and maybe an SAT II Subject.
So you also need to focus on grades. The fact that you are president will increase your changes though. To get a solid core though, get even more involved in your school. IF you're going to do something, make sure you spend a lot of time and effort in it. It would be pointless otherwise.Colleges are looking for dedication in something. The more you juggle, the better (esp. if they're in different areas i.e. academics, athletics, community service, club memberships, student body, etc.)
